More than a tutoring center
Cross-Cultural Ministries, Inc. is a non-denominational Christian ministry serving low-income, non-English speaking children and their families by providing free educational and enrichment programs.
Education

Educational resources & after school tutoring that empowers
Our programs have been changing lives and communities since 1992. We designed a proven set of educational resources that our volunteers use to equip non-English speakers with the tools to master the foundations of math and phonics-based English. We offer a variety of educational programs throughout the year for both youth and adults.
- After-school homework help and individual tutoring
- Summer Reading Camp
- English classes for adults and youth
- Kindergarten class and Pre-K transitional program
Discipleship

Mentoring & discipleship programs that transform
Through our weekly Bible club, we're able to introduce the gospel to families in a non-threatening way. Our location within under-resourced communities helps to build relationships and position us to provide ongoing faith mentorship and discipleship.
- Bible Clubs for 1st - 5th Grades
- Middle School Clubs
- High School Bible Studies
- Mentorship & Service Opportunities for Student Leaders
Community Outreach

Partnering with local ministries to share Christ
CCM works with local ministries to help make the gospel accessible to the immigrant communities in Dekalb County. Through our partnership with churches and other ministries, we can expand the reach of events where the gospel is presented and share the love of Christ with more people.
- School supply & backpack distribution
- Holiday events like Christmas parties Easter egg hunts
- Day of Service volunteer opportunities at CCM
- Partnering with local churches during their Vacation Bible School
Step-by-step...
lives are changed
So many of our students start behind the curve. Our goal is to help them experience success and give them the tools to keep growing.
Start learning the basics and experience an early win.
Many of these students enter school without any understanding of the English language. By providing the support and tools they need to start seeing success, we lay a foundation for motivation and continued relationship.
1
Build confidence to gain mastery.
With support and early success, confidence begins to build and grow. Students start to improve and catch up and find a foothold in the classroom
2
3
Learn to learn and think critically.
While learning to master basic math and English, our students gain the skills to think critically and they learn how to learn. Now they have the tools to succeed in every avenue of American life.
The world opens up.
Now with the tools to learn any subject, the world is an open book to our students. Able to work independently and having mastered discipline and focus, they begin to excel in the classroom.
4
5
Students forge ahead as successful, self-sufficient adults.
The tools our students learn equip them for success in all aspects of life.
What we do
CCM rents an apartment or uses a common room in the community so that children, youth, and adults in the surrounding apartment complexes can easily receive free homework assistance and attend supplementary educational programs, English classes, and Bible classes.

Safe spaces to learn
Many of our families live in small, cramped spaces offering little to no place to complete homework.
Simply providing a safe physical environment to work enables students to focus and learn more effectively.
Compassionate tutors & mentors
Our tutors use our specialized educational curriculum to guide students through the basics of reading and math. Many are retired general and special education teachers passionate about empowering students to learn.

Bible study as an educational tool
Central to our curriculum is equipping students to read and study scripture. As such, scripture readings, hymns, and Bible stories are baked into the curriculum.
Individualized help for each student
As we get to know each child by working together on their homework, reading together, and completing assessments, we quickly identify areas of strengths and challenges.
This enables us to develop a customized and continually updated tutoring plan for each student that addresses their current knowledge level and challenges.

Providing a safe place to grow and learn.
After-school learning centers that meet students where they are.
Here's how we do it:
1
Provide a safe place learning environment.
Our community-based education centers are located inside local apartment complexes and are staffed with retired teachers and other volunteers who provide tutoring, mentorship, and discipleship.
2
Assess the student’s baseline.
Through interviews, assessments, and working alongside the child, we can quickly determine each student's baseline knowledge and challenges. We begin with literacy, reading comprehension, and homework assistance from the very first visit and continually assess needs as we work together.
3
Build a customized tutoring plan.
Through ongoing assessment of needs and learning styles, we build a customized tutoring program to help each child achieve grade-level English and math proficiency by the third grade and provide educational support through high school graduation.
